In the World Touring Car Championship, skilled drivers at the wheel of close-to-production touring cars deliver some impressive motor racing. On the way to the 2008 World Championship title, teams and drivers will have to contest 12 rounds, comprising 24 sprint races.

The FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) is contested by drivers from all over the world.
Together with Formula One and the World Rally Championship, the WTCC represents one of only three series the FIA has granted World Championship status.
Apart from BMW, the following manufacturers are also involved in the series: Alfa Romeo, SEAT and Chevrolet.
Privatiers are starting in own valuation, called „Independece Trophy “, an own championship is battled.
The 2008 FIA WTCC comprises eleven events. These are staged on three continents in eleven countries: Brazil, Netherlands, Spain, France, Czech Republic, Portugal, Turkey, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and China.
There are two rounds held per race weekend, with the top eight from round one contesting round two in reverse starting order.
The most successful drivers from a race weekend are allocated a handicap weight for the following event. The regulations also allow for the possibility of reducing the weight handicap.
Three vehicle categories are accepted for the FIA WTCC: Touring cars with normally aspirated petrol engines and touring cars with turbo-diesel engines
