Both drivers showed a good speed among the Honda Racing drivers and Tiago taking points in both races.
Attila led our charge on a demanding WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup race day at Motorland Aragon.
In Qualifying 1 Attila Tassi was 14th, just 0.068s back from P12 in his LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler Civic Type R TCR. Having set the seventh-fastest time in FP1, Attila then experienced a vibration in the second practice session that was not diagnosed before qualifying, and felt he lost time in the higher-speed corners as a consequence.
His team-mate Tiago Monteiro was three positions further back in 17th. Tiago experienced a number of undiagnosed issues throughout Saturday that magnified the already high pace deficit the car - carrying 40kg compensation weight for a third weekend in a row - traditionally experiences at Aragon.
On race day both our drivers showed a good pace among all the Honda drivers but had not the pace to fight for more.
Attila had a good start in Race 1 and was running in 12th. However, he suffered a tyre delamination on the main straight four laps from the end of the race and did not finish. Taigo finished the race in 14th.
In Race 2 all 4 Hondas finished nose-to-tail with Attila on 14th and Tiago on 15th place. Attila was promoted one place to 13th after another competitor received a five-second time penalty.
Next race will be the home race of Tiago in Vila Real, but as we still carrying the full compensation weight the expactations will be not that high.
Tiago Monteiro, LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler
"We were bracing ourselves for a tough weekend as historically Aragon has never been kind to us, and so it proved to be. Nevertheless, we did not expect the gap to be as big as it was and that is even after we worked hard overnight to improve our Honda Civic Type R TCR. We have had issues and have been working to make it better, but no matter what we do there is a limit to how much our efforts can bring in - we've had our eyes open to that for some time now. It’s not an amazing situation to be in going to my home race so we need to be realistic about this, just as we were coming here."
Attila Tassi, LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler
"That was a very hard pair of races. In Race One I had a great start and stayed clear of any contact, and then I had pretty much the same pace as Esteban or I was possibly even quicker. I felt like I could catch him and maybe in the last few laps I would have a chance to overtake him, but then I had a tyre delamination on the main straight and that was it. Race Two was much hotter and the pace didn’t feel as good, although the gap to the frontrunners was a little hard to believe. It was a hard race so it was all about collecting what points we could, which we managed."
